Who we are
NCCEOP History
NCCEOP Purpose/Objective
NCCEOP
is a non-profit organization
established in 1973. NCCEOP is a statewide organization established to
bring together those persons who are actively interested in and professionally involved in educational
opportunity programs in higher education. The organization is committed to
educational opportunity advocacy for low-income students.
Many
of its members are employees of federally funded "TRIO Programs"
in North Carolina. These programs include Upward Bound, Educational
Talent Search, Student Support Services, Educational Opportunity Centers, the
Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Programs. NCCEOP, in its
membership and students, reflects the racial and ethnic diversity of North Carolina.
NCCEOP is particularly concerned about
those students who, by reason of socio-economic status, ethnic definition,
limited English-speaking ability, physical handicap, being a first generation
college student, and/or restricted cultural-educational experience, find
themselves in disadvantaged positions when pursing post secondary education with
"traditional" American students.
NCCEOP is dedicated to aiding its
members in ensuring that these students have opportunities to enroll in and
graduate from post-secondary institutions.
NCCEOP is an active member of the Southeastern Association of
Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (SAEOPP) and the Council for
Opportunity in Education (COE). SAEOPP is a regional organization covering
Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South
Carolina, and Tennessee. COE is the only
post-secondary association representing the interest of
disadvantaged students in all fifty states. Both organizations promote
the education of low-income students.
